Description
Cumberland on Vancouver Island, British Columbia was an active coal mining town from 1889 until 1966. Miners came from across Canada, the US, China and Japan. At the time, it had the fifth largest Chinese settlement in British Columbia. There were also three Japanese communities. in the area. All of the mines are now closed. This image is of abandoned Coal Mine No. 8 that now attracts graffiti art.
